Art Prize 2013 spans across three miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan captivating audiences of all ages.   When you think of art, technology isn’t the first to come to mind, but it has changed the way things are done at Art Prize.

The website looks clean bright and it is easy to navigate. From the Plan Your Visit  (Art Prize, 2013) tab you can create a profile and download mobile app for your Android or iPhone. This will allow you to find, save, and vote for your favorite to win. If you haven’t made the smart phone switch you can also vote online through your artprize.org account or text message ‘Vote’ to 808080.

My favorite part about the website is at the bottom of the page. Art Prize’s team has compiled a list of names, addresses, links and an interactive map to anything you would need or want while visiting. Locations include hotels, restaurants, parking, shopping, nightlife, transportation, museums, and more.

Kirsetin Morello from My Experience Grand Rapids Blog compiled the Top 10 Tips for Getting the Most Out of ArtPrize. (Morello, 2013)  When reading her article it caught my attention that half of the tips would be considered technology based tips, like: Bring smart phone, check weather app, download Art Prize app, map it, and a camera. Depending on how you look at things map it to one person could mean print off our pick up a paper map or it could also mean map your route on the Art Prize app.  And when it says bring a camera some people may think to bring their digital or 35mm, and others may think android or iPhone. It is amazing how technology changes the way you look at life around you.

When looking at Art Prize from a public relations perspective it is great to see they put their heart and soul to connect with surrounding business and organizations. Grand Rapids has so much to offer visitors and locals alike.

Art Prize is also benefiting Grand Valley State University students with first hand experience about technology, social media, and Art Prize.

According to Art Prize to work with student-run PR firm written by GV School of Com in Advertising/Public Relations on Friday September 20, 2013.

“Since 2011, Grand PR—a student-run public relations firm—has worked directly  with the Art Prize staff. This PR firm is based directly out of Allendale and is ran by 17 SoC students. This year, GrandPR will be working with Art Prize by live tweeting during events such as the “Cat Video Festival” on September 27, the Top Ten ceremony on September 29, and the Art Prize Awards on October 4. In addition, the team will be assisting with media tracking. ” (GV School of Com 2013)

These examples only scratch the surface of how Art Prize impact individuals globally through Art and Technology locally.
